Want To Eat Clean? Here Are 10 Ways to Detox Your System

You are what you eat is a well-known phrase, and many of us have a goal to eat healthier. ‘Clean eating’ is very famous in the field of health nowadays, andalthough the term doesn’t relate to dirt or hygiene, it’s closely connected toeating good and healthy foods. We can put a lot of junk and unnecessary foods in our bodies because they are easy to eat, make and purchase. If we are to stop using our bodies as a garbage bin, it is necessary to understand what to eat and what not to eat.

For detailed information and facts, keep reading on what is clean eating?

What is clean eating?

Clean eating is a term used for the idea to eat minimally processed food and more real and plant-based food, or clean food for maximum nutritional benefits. In short, it means to eat more home-made meals in their closest form to nature.

This kind of eating is known to be more nutritious, beneficial to the body and even easy to follow as it does not involve any fancy diet ingredients. If you are thinking of following this plan, then go ahead,it’ll even be lighter for your pocket.

Ways to Eat and Follow a Clean Diet

Stick to vegetables and fruits
Fruits and vegetables are your best friends. They are the most nutritious and healthiest source of food, loaded with vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients. Not only are vegetables and fruitseasily accessible, they are low in cost and good to taste.

Each vegetable and fruit is enriched with its own nutritional value, and can be eaten raw or cooked.Find your favorites and tuck in after a good wash with clean water, or create delicious dishes you will keep coming back to.

Try eating organic produce as well; this will help you consume the most toxin-free fruits and vegetables, and you’ll definitely notice the difference in your health.

Cut out sugar
There are plenty ofsweet-tooth’s out there, and who doesn’t like a can of chilled soda during a hot summer day?But the amount of processed sugar in it will leave you perplexed. A single can of Coca-Cola can have about 7 teaspoons of sugar in it!

Whilst sugar tastes good, it can be the cause for many bad effects on your body, including heart diseases and obesity.Your bakery products, local sweets, and ice-creamsare full of added sugar and artificial sweeteners, so it is important to cut down on the, Whilst eating clean, sugar contents don’t need to be removed from your life but it can be replaced by a few natural sweetness such as honey, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Limit processed foods
If your target is to eat clean and natural, then processed food is the complete opposite. Processed food like packed food, baked goods and all the other foods which are not directly derived from the plants are processed foods. Even if any harmful or artificial ingredients are not added, it might not have the necessary nutrients,so focus on eating real plant-based food.

Cut on refined carbs
Carbs may not be bad for you, but only if eaten inmoderation and you are focusing onconsuming healthy carbs. Eating excessive carbs can lead to problems like obesity, heart problems, fatty liver, and insulin resistance. Avoid consumption of items prepared from refined flour(Maida);it may get you to feel fuller much quicker, but it isn’t good for you.

Focus on eating more whole-grains, steel-cut oats, Hi-fiber home-made Roties and whole grain bread, and avoid processed foods like readymade breakfasts and cereals.

Bring out your inner-chef
Eating out isn’t very helpful for your clean-diet plan. Why not cook at home? Get the freshest ingredients from the store and fresh vegetables from the local market, and get set go!The advantage here is that you get to control every single thing you put in the dish, there’s nothing bad for you hiding in there that you are unaware of. Make sure you focus on preparing a meal that is full of nutrients, healthy and filling.

Pick your snack wisely
A little time after your meal, there comes a moment when your body starts craving for a little treat or a snack. This is the point where most people lose their control. Instead of succumbing to unhealthy, fried or sugary snacks during your tea time, get yourself a handful of healthy options like nuts, peanuts, makhana or sprouted lentils.

Shop Local
Eating clean also means that you need to cut out toxins and chemically treated foods. The best way to do this is to go organic. This concept emphasises on cultivating food without any use of fertilizers and pesticides. Go to your local organic market and pick out all the fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables. Not only will you be supporting the economy, but it will also help you eat clean.

Read the labels
Going through labels is one habit that will guide you every time. It will help you distinguish between what has been presented and what is actually part of the ingredients. Every time you go through the labels and the list of contents on the back of the food product you buy, pick the ones which you think suits you, and buy the cleanest food.

Monitor your alcohol consumption
Excessive consumption of alcohol can result in certain health problems such as fatty liver, digestive disorder and fat around the stomach. Mind your glasses of alcohol to keep your system clean.

Water is the best beverage
A cup of hot coffee or a chilled mojito is always complimentary with your food. Sometimes it is better to avoid it as it can add unnecessary sugar to your diet. Getyourself into drinking at least 8-10 glasses of water each day, to help flush out all the toxins from your body.

Final Thoughts
Our body is a running machine which requires all the wholesome nutrients it can get so that it functions properly.Do not try to cut out any nutrients from your diet, and eat good food, think positive thoughts and live a clean, toxin-free healthy life. The food that comes directly from plants is good food, everything else should be consumed in moderation, or some cut out all together for happy clean eating.

Deyga Organics Beetroot Lip Balm Review

Tinted lip balms are my go-to since I have pigmented lips. Today we will be talking about Deyga Organics Beetroot Lip Balm which is a slightly tinted lip balm. After using the lip balm for 20 days here am penning it down for you all.

Ingredients of Deyga Organics Beetroot Lip Balm
Almond Oil, Avocado Oil, Jojoba Oil, Shea butter, beetroot extract, beeswax.

Packaging, texture and fragrance
Package is in an aluminum tin. It is a cute little tin which is travel friendly. The texture of the balm is a little waxy and not buttery. If you want to scoop out the balm you need to scratch the balm with a tooth pick or a spoon end. The fragrance of the lip balm is predominantly coconut oil.

My experience with Deyga Organics Beetroot Lip Balm
I have pigmented lips and so am more of into tinted lip balms instead of normal ones. Normal balms I use at night whereas tinted ones I use during the day. Deyga Organics Beetroot lip balm forms a waxy layer on the lips while moisturizing them a bit.

The moisturization stays for around 5 hours after which my lips start feeling dry and I feel the need to reapply the balm. As far as the tint is concerned it fades away within minutes of application. It does leave a little tint behind which stays a bit. However, keeping in mind the thought of addition of beetroot extracts, I would like the tint to stay a little longer than few minutes. If you try to apply more lip balm in an attempt to get a strong tint you will fail as the formula is waxy and it hardly stays on lips.

The product quantity is 20 gms which is very huge to finish keeping in mind the miniscule amount used everyday. It would be really great if the quantity is reduced and the formula is made buttery with the use of some other plant butters. Overall speaking I find Deyga Organics Beetroot Lip Balm an average lip balm. One major advantage of this lip balm is that it doesn't contain any essential oils. I like this fact about the product since most products contain essential oils.

Price, Shelf life and Availability - 290 INR for 20 gms with a shelf life of 8 months.

Deyga Organics Beetroot Lip Balm Review

Deyga Organics Beetroot Lip Balm is an average lip balm if you are looking for moisturizing the lips during the day. It works better if you use as a night treatment rather than day treatment If you are using it keeping in mind the tint or long lasting moisturizing effects then this lip balm isn't for you. If you are someone who has the habit of applying lip balm on regular intervals throughout the day then pick this up. I wish the formulation as well as the tint is improved and the quantity of the product is reduced. Also the main thing which I like about this lip balm is that it is essential oil free.

Deyga Organics Tea Tree Toner Review

I have heard of hydrating toners, mists or hydrosols but never really experienced it on a long term basis. To be frank I skip toners in my routine and you can blame my laziness. I sometimes do use mists or hydrosols but rarely I am regular with them too. Coming back to the review am excited to share with you all my experience with Deyga Organics Tea Tree Toner.

Brand Claims and Ingredients of Deyga Organics Tea Tree Toner

Packaging, Texture and Fragrance
The packaging is a plastic bottle with a spritzer and cap. The product is dispensed nicely through the spritzer. The see through packaging make it easy to see the quantity left of the product, but also needs to be kept away from the sunlight. The fragrance is that of tea tree essential oil but is less bothering and non lingering than that.

My experience with Deyga Organics Tea Tree Toner
As stated earlier I have hardly found any hydrating toner or mist. Hydrating oily skin is as important as moisturization. Now coming back to the review I usually spray this after cleansing my skin and when my skin is still damp. Although the brand suggests to wipe off the mist with a cotton pad, I done wipe it off, because am going by the ingredient mentioned which is nothing but steam distilled tea tree water.

I spray some amount of Deyga Organics Tea Tree Toner on my face and wait for it to dry a not (not fully dry). Then I apply the Sebamed Clear Face Care Gel on my face. While I massage the gel into my skin it automatically mixes the tea tree toner and gel and forms a good mask sort thing which gets readily absorbed by my oily acne prone dehydrated skin.

I used a face pack last week and my skin was less oily but it was dehydrated as I could see some under the skin bumps I have. So I used this tea tree toner in combination with Sebamed Clear Face Care Gel and it relieved my dehydrated skin within one week.

When I introduced this tea tree toner in my routine I could see a little dryness around my forehead but gradually by massaging it with my moisturizer it helped reduce that too.

Now coming to the efficiency part the tea tree toner helps to tame away small zits which I get when I use moisturizer with oil in it. It takes around 6-7 days to show effects. I do not get any cystic acne as such now so I can't comment on that part. Although it works on small zits I would say don't use this as a preventive measure and use it more as curative measure to tackle zits here and there. And most importantly do not let the toner get inside your mouth or on your lips by any chance 😈.

Price, Shelf life and Availability -  490 INR for 100 ml with a shelf life of 6 months from manufacturing. Available on Deyga Organics website.

Recommendation of Deyga Organics Tea Tree Toner
I would suggest Deyga Organics Tea Tree Toner as a hydrating toner for oily acne prone skin types. I usually massage it along with my oil free moisturizer on face and I have seen a difference in my skin hydration as well as in taming away small zits. I never expected the toner to have any effect on small zits. Overall am satisfied with the product efficiency and will definitely get another bottle once my stash is over. Later I found out that the toner foams a lot when shaked a bit which means it has some surfactants added to increase the shelf life so I won't be repurchasing it. Although it did not give any side effect to my skin.

My Current Haircare Routine

I am not much of a haircare person. I just shampoo my hair and that's it. You can call me lazy but I really don't have much patience for a hair mask or something. I have also learnt some Haircare lessons the hard way, about which you can read here. A few things I follow diligently and I am going to pen them down for you all.

Now something about my hair type, it is a something between 2A and 2B. I don't follow curly hair routine because of time constraints and yes of course laziness. Now coming to the scalp I have dandruff prone scalp which can build up if I apply oil to the scalp regularly. I do get hair trims regularly but am trying to increase my hair length so am not getting any trims regularly.

Also my hair length has doubled since my last trim in June 2019 and this has been the greatest achievement according to me, since am struggling with hair length since many years. Also my hair fall is very less these days like only 10-15 strands per day and on hair wash day it is like something 10 hair in shower and 30 while combing.

Let's get into the hair care routine.

I rarely change my shampoo. At my early 30s I have changed only 5 shampoos in my life. After shifting to Bangalore, post marriage, I had a lot of hairfall and so I was using Bon Organics Aloe Shampoo but after some 2 years that too started giving me massive hairfall and so I switched to Satthwa Argan Oil Shampoo since 2 years. I also use their anti dandruff variant once in a while, if I get dandruff. I always dilute my shampoo in one quarter of a mug filled with lukewarm water and take only a coin sized shampoo. I thoroughly mix it in water and pour over my scalp and massage very lightly, keep for some time and wash off. I only shampoo my scalp and not hair.

I don't use conditioner regularly and on rare occasions if I have to use, I use SoulTree conditioner which is a wash off one.

Hair Mask/ Hair Pack
I am not much into hair mask and packs. I do apply heena and recently started using indigo powder to conceal my grey hair. I also use some raw onion juice on the scalp to increase the hair length of my hair and am already noticing a difference. So I will keep you posted about how it goes in another post.

Hair Oil
As stated earlier, I suffer from dandruff if I oil my scalp overnight. It is something related to fungus I think and it also causes acne on my forehead and back. I am currently using a medicated hair oil named SBL's Arnica Montana Oil which I apply to my hair next day after washing them. The hair oil is light in texture and have zero greasiness.

I have been using a wooden comb since past 3 years. I swear by it. I like how it nicely massages my scalp while am combing my hair. I sometimes end up combing my scalp lightly which stimulates the blood flow.

I regularly eat onions (cooked), pomegranates, tomatoes, curry leaves (in tadka) and carrots. I almost use curry leaves everyday in dals or poha or upma.

Hair drying
I use a microfiber cloth to dry the length of my hair and to absorb the water near roots of hair I use a fine cotton cloth. I usually just place the cotton cloth on the scalp with a little pressure on each part of the scalp. I never rub the hair or my scalp with any cloth.

Some points I diligently follow are
  • I never change my shampoo unless the current one is giving me severe hair fall
  • I always dilute my shampoo in lukewarm water and then apply it to my scalp
  • I wash my hair twice a week with lukewarm water
  • I oil my hair after washing and never oil my hair overnight
  • I always use a scarf whenever I am heading out be in on a vehicle or a car or a walk.
You have to understand what works or what doesn't work for your hair and act accordingly. I have never experimented much with my hair and am happy about how it looks given the amount of time I invest in them. If you have any questions please feel free to comment them below.

Beauty Benefits of Haldi Chandan Face Pack

Sandalwood, also known as Chandan and Turmeric, also known as Haldi, have been used in Ayurveda to cure skin ailments and in clarifying the skin. Chandan has soothing, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also natural skin coolant, which reduces skin irritations and its fragrance alleviates the mood.

Haldi has anti-bacterial properties, which help in reducing acne, acne marks and pigmentation. Haldi contains curcumin, which is an anti-inflammatory ingredient. So combining the two potent ingredients Haldi and Chandan will be beneficial for the skin whether it is in arresting acne or reducing acne marks or pigmentation or reducing the skin irritation.

Let us get started with some homemade face packs made with Haldi and Chandan as active ingredients. Before proceeding with any face pack or any product with Haldi as an ingredient, please do a patch test.

Ayurvedic face pack for pimples
Take half teaspoon of Moong Dal flour, a pinch of each Haldi, Neem leaves powder, Chandan and Rose petals powder. Mix with water or any preferred liquid to activate it. Apply as face pack or use as a daily face wash powder for smooth, acne free skin. Moong Dal contains proteins, which help in getting soft skin while retaining the moisture of the skin. Neem and Haldi help in combatting acne whereas Chandan and rose petals powder help in soothing the itching or painful acne.

Ayurvedic face pack for oily skin
Mix half teaspoon of Multani Mitti, a pinch of Haldi and Chandan each. Add rose water to the mixture and apply a thin layer on face or on areas where the skin gets oilier than other areas. Wash off with plain water when it's semi dry. Do not let the face pack dry fully. This is one of the best face pack for oily skin as Multani Mitti absorbs the oiliness where as Haldi and Chandan impart their antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Turmeric Face Pack
Mix 2 teaspoons of yogurt with half a teaspoon of Haldi and apply as a turmeric face pack for glowing and acne free skin. Yogurt has mild exfoliating and astringent properties whereas Haldi has antibacterial properties.

Face pack for glowing skin
Mix one teaspoon of besan with a pinch of Haldi and Chandan and mix with milk or yogurt and apply daily as a face pack for glowing skin. Sebamed Clear Face Care Gel Review

We often talk about light weight moisturizers for oily acne prone skin. So today am going to review my first ever oil and emulsifier free moisturizer which is Sebamed Clear Face Care Gel. I have been using it all through November, December 2019. I am highly impressed by the results and have already repurchased it. So you guys know what to expect in this review. Read on for the details.

Sebamed Clear Face Care Gel Review

Brand Claims

Sebamed Clear Face Care Gel Review

INGREDIENTS: Aqua, Aloe barbadensis leaf juice, Propylene Glycol, Glycerin, Sorbitol, Panthenol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Allantoin, Sodium Carbomer, Citric Acid, Sodium Hydraoxide, Phenoxyethanol

Packaging, Texture and Fragrance
The packaging is pretty simple, a tube with a flip cap top. The packaging colour and everything is pretty simple. The texture of the Sebamed Clear Face Gel is transparent gel. The consistency is perfect, it neither runny nor thick. The product is fragrance free.

Sebamed Clear Face Care Gel Review

My experience with Sebamed Clear Face Care Gel
My skin was going through a bad phase during November and December so when my esthetician recommended me to use this moisturizer I grabbed it without any second thoughts.

Sebamed Clear Face Care Gel contains Hyaluronic Acid, Aloe Vera, Allantoin and panthenol. This is a moisturizer perfect for irritated, sensitive or a compromised skin barrier.

Sebamed Clear Face Care Gel gets absorbed into the skin very very easily and doesn't even feel like you have applied anything. The best part is it makes the skin soft, a little smooth but doesn't plump it up. As you start applying the product onto the skin it turns into slightly runny texture and spreads easily and gets absorbed as if you haven't applied anything.

The best part about the Sebamed Clear Face Care Gel is that it is free from oil, emulsifiers, colour and fragrance. After consistently using this product as a moisturiser I have seen a huge difference in the reduction of my pores. Because am using a product free from oil and emulsifiers. No matter how small percentage of oil or emulsifier is present in the moisturiser it does get accumulated over a period of time on our facial skin.

Price, Shelf life and Availability - 476 INR for 50 ml with a shelf life of 3 years. It is not on discount usually. It is easily available in medical stores and major online shopping websites like Amazon, Nykaa.
